Who is a student?
A student is someone who goes full time to a school, college, university, or another place that provides education.
To be considered a student for the purposes of council tax, the course must:
- Last at least 1 academic or calendar year
- Attend for at least 24 weeks in each academic or calendar year
- Study for at least 21 hours each week.
Who is a student nurse?
You are a student nurse if you are studying a course that will let you join the official nursing register. This includes courses for nurses listed in parts 1 to 6 or part 8 of the register.
You can get a discount only if this is your first time joining the register.
If you are doing a course at university, you will be counted as a student for council tax.
Before you apply for a discount, you will need
A certificate that shows you are a student. You can get this from the registration officer at your college or university.
