Who counts as an apprentice for Council Tax?
You are an apprentice if:
- You have a job where you are learning a trade or profession.
- You are on a training course that leads to a qualification approved by an official body.
- You earn the National Minimum Wage for your age now. You will earn more when you finish your training.
To apply for an apprentice discount, you will need the following documents:

- A declaration from your employer of your Apprenticeship status.
- Proof of earnings
You need a letter from your employer that shows how much you earn.
- If you get paid every week, submit details of your pay for the last 5 weeks.
- If you get paid every month, submit details of your pay for the last 2 months.
